- The Duchess of York opened up to Vogue Arabia about how she relates to the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, and their shared experiences with media scrutiny.
- Ferguson told the magazine that she "abhors bullying" and thinks Meghan should be "celebrated."
Sarah Ferguson, also known as the Duchess of York, showed compassion towards Meghan Markle in a new interview with Vogue Arabia.
The profile details the turbulent emotional trials the duchess has experienced in her decades of life as a royal family member. Ferguson details experiencing the aftermath of her ex-husband Prince Andrew’s public ties to the late, disgraced Jeffrey Epstein, as well as the parallels between her own experiences with public scrutiny and what the Duchess of Sussex has recently experienced.
“It must be hard for Meghan, and I can relate to her. I believe she is modern and fabulous. She is great,” Ferguson told the magazine. “Why can’t Meghan be great? Why can’t she be celebrated? I have been in Meghan’s shoes, and I still am. There’s always a twist of negativity and it just gets so sad and tiring; it’s hard and mean. I abhor bullying and I feel desperately sorry for the pain they must be going through because I’ve been through it.”

Since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made their debut as a couple in 2016, the Duchess of Sussex has undergone endless public backlash that's included critiques on her appearance, skepticism of her intentions with Harry, and—something Ferguson can’t relate to—outright racism.
Ferguson went on to explain how living life in the royal spotlight makes public scrutiny unavoidable and is something her daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, have experienced for themselves, making them more sympathetic to their mother.
“Beatrice always says that I’m the most misunderstood person,” said Ferguson. “I agree.”
